Amazon is definitely geeking out over the work of J.R.R. Tolkien.<\/p>\n

Amazon Game Studios announced Wednesday that it plans to develop a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game based on Tolkien\u2019s signature fantasy work \u201cThe Lord of the Rings.\u201d Amazon is partnering with Leyou Technologies Holdings and Middle-earth Enterprises, according to a news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The game news is in addition to Amazon Studios\u2019 separate development of an Amazon Original television series based on \u201cLotR,\u201d which was announced<\/a> in November 2017.<\/p>\n

The game, which will be developed for PC and consoles, will be set in Tolkien\u2019s vast world of Middle-earth portrayed in the literary trilogy. Tolkien\u2019s book series\u00a0was named\u00a0Amazon\u00a0customers\u2019 favorite book of the millennium in 1999.<\/p>\n

We have a strong leadership team in place to helm this new project, and we\u2019re actively growing our team to help build this incredible experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
