There&#8217;s more to it than choosing a decent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.creativebloq.com\/typography\/20-perfect-type-pairings-3132120\" target=\"_blank\">font pairing<\/a> and hoping for the best.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.creativebloq.com\/features\/the-secrets-of-typesetting\">The secrets of typesetting<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bad typesetting can be just as hard on the eye as an ill-considered palette or a poorly-executed logo design, and there&#8217;s no way around it: you have to take your time learning the basics. If you follow these expert tips, though, you should find that the path to typesetting expertise becomes much easier to follow.<\/p>\n<h3>01. Take your time<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Getting typesetting right is something that will largely come with time,&#8221; says Michelle Stocks of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nelsonbostockunlimited.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nelson Bostock Unlimited<\/a>. &#8220;So just keep practising, and don&#8217;t get put off when it doesn&#8217;t look good immediately. I recommend looking at a lot of inspiration too, because it helps you get an idea of what works well together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>02. Keep studying\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;First you need to learn the tools: font size, leading, tracking, horizontal and vertical scaling, paragraph styling, language settings and grid systems,&#8221; says Maya Walters of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hogarthww.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hogarth Worldwide<\/a>. &#8220;Then you need to extend your knowledge: there&#8217;s always something new to learn. Read a book on typography and set challenges for yourself to put your new skills into practice, such as working on a personal project.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>03. Read books<\/h3>\n<p>For reading matter, Luke Tonge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeagency.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">LIFE<\/a> suggests <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Type-Matters-Jim-Williams\/dp\/1858945674\" target=\"_blank\">Type Matters!<\/a> by Jim Williams and <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkingwithtype.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thinking with Type<\/a> by Ellen Lupton. And if you really want to treat yourself, he adds, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurenceking.com\/en\/the-visual-history-of-type\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Visual History of Type<\/a> by Paul McNeil is &#8220;the best book on type this year&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>04. Use online resources\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;There are countless online resources to help you improve your skills too,&#8221; says Tonge. &#8220;They include <a href=\"https:\/\/ilovetypography.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ilovetypography.com<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.typographher.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">typographher.com<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/letterformarchive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">letterformarchive.org<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.typewolf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">typewolf.com<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fontsinuse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">fontsinuse.com<\/a>. Plus, on Twitter there are heaps of amazing foundries, magazines, designers, publications and organisations to follow, to further immerse yourself in the world of type.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>05. Clients come first<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Above all, find out about the client&#8217;s needs when it comes to typesetting,&#8221; says Walters. &#8220;Do they have guidelines and styles?
