No home video game console has sold more units in the U.S. in its first 10 months than the Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to Nintendo, which said it has sold 4.8 million Switch units in the U.S. since its March release, surpassing the previously fastest-selling console, the Nintendo Wii. The popular Wii sold 4 million units during its first 10 months.<\/p>\n

\u201cFans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,\u201d Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America\u2019s president and COO said in a statement. \u201cNow that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latest announcement comes less than a month after Nintendo said it had sold more than 10 million Switch units worldwide<\/a>, putting it in rare gaming company.<\/p>\n

The Switch, Nintendo\u2019s seventh console,\u00a0was a crucial launch for the company<\/a> following disappointing Wii U sales compared to competing devices like the Xbox One and Playstation 4. But the game quality and unique nature of the console has made it a success so far.<\/p>\n

At one point The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was actually outselling the console itself. According to Nintendo\u2019s figures, Super Mario Odyssey, released in October, is now the most popular game, owned by 60 percent of all Switch owners. About 55 percent of Switch owners have Zelda.<\/p>\n

Nintendo appears to think that Switch\u2019s momentum will continue to build, as the company is\u00a0reportedly looking to produce 25 to 30 million<\/a>\u00a0units next fiscal year, beginning in April.<\/p>\n
