Skillz<\/a> is announcing that it will take Capcom\u2019s Street Fighter fighting game into mobile esports for prizes. That means players will be able to compete with each other for cash, prizes, or points in a mobile-based Street Fighter game.<\/p>\n

San Francisco-based Skillz has been running a platform for mobile prize games for a while, and in its past eight months, the company reported a revenue run-rate of more than $100 million<\/a> (That means that in the next 12 months, it is on target to generate $100 million in revenue).<\/p>\n

First\u00a0released in 1987, Street Fighter has defined the fighting genre for generations of gamers. More\u00a0recently, the franchise has become one of the most spectated video games and a staple of\u00a0professional play.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always believed that multiplayer and spectatorship are integral to the Street Fighter\u00a0experience,\u201d said Midori Yuasa, CEO of Beeline Interactive, a division of Capcom, in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to partner with\u00a0the Skillz platform to deliver the next evolution of this competitive series to mobile gamers.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the upcoming release, fans will be able to\u00a0play a new Street Fighter experience on mobile. In addition, fans will be able to tune in to live broadcast\u00a0competitions integrated natively within the game, powered by the Skillz platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this partnership, Street Fighter will define the future of competitive mobile gameplay,\u201d said\u00a0Andrew Paradise, CEO and founder of Skillz, in a statement. \u201cWith worldwide \u00a0competitions and countless\u00a0physically organized events, Street Fighter has helped lay the foundation of modern pro gaming\u00a0for both players and spectators. We\u2019re excited to facilitate the delivery of this competitive\u00a0experience to mobile gamers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Capcom\u2019s Beeline\u00a0is dedicated to bringing\u00a0the characters, stories and experiences of Osaka, Japan-based Capcom to the a new generation of mobile\u00a0players.<\/p>\n

Skillz reported revenue of $54 million in 2016, up 170 percent from $20 million in 2015.\u00a0The esports economy will grow 41.3 percent to $696 million in 2017, according to market researcher Newzoo<\/a>. The total market is expected to nearly triple to $1.5 billion by 2020.<\/p>\n
