One of the most underrated VR games last year was Rec Room<\/em>. Not only did it showcase the wonderful things VR can do, link<\/a> but it presented them within a sports environment, pilule<\/a> something I thought wouldn\u2019t be possible. Now, Merge Games is doing the same albeit in a more confined space, ping pong. Is it as intriguing as it\u00a0sounds?<\/p>\n

Gameplay:<\/h4>\n

VR Ping Pong<\/em> utilizes motion controls, and despite Playstation VR\u2019s effort to improve them, they still don\u2019t feel right at home in a game like this. Players will have to place themselves within uncomfortable positions in order to set a simple shot, and this typically kills the possibility for a tight\u00a0match.<\/p>\n

Story &\u00a0Design:<\/h4>\n

If you somehow manage to get the hang of VR Ping Pong<\/em>\u2019s gameplay, you\u2019ll find that the difficulty curve is a lot more natural, and is housed with some of the game\u2019s charm. An aspect like this isn\u2019t immediately present when players look over at the simplistic environment, but they\u2019ll certainly find some tricks the more they experiment\/explore.<\/p>\n

Presentation\/ Visuals &\u00a0Audio:<\/h4>\n

Nevertheless, if you\u2019re looking for a game to prove VR, VR Ping Pong<\/em> is not it. The game feels like it was done under the guise of a quick little passion project, and this becomes more and more apparent as you spot the lack of animation. The game\u2019s sound design is also sub-par, but you can mute it and get straight to the straining action.<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/h4>\n

VR Ping Pong<\/em> could have been a quick little lovable VR title, but instead the game falls flat in many facets. Hopefully the concept is revisited but with some higher talent, or the developers, if they learn from their common mistakes.<\/p>\n
