Better design: not having this dialogue box at all.

Better design: not having this dialogue box at all. Instead, remove the object from the UI immediately, then use a delayed trigger.

The reason this is important is that loss of work (or mistaken submission) is by far the most damaging thing an interface can do to the user. All other issues (mode error, misunderstanding, speed, etc.) are a distant second place .

I’ve designed UIs for content management systems, booking forms and other things, and the one thing that’s guaranteed to make users scream at you with rage is if you allow them to lose their work or submit something in error. Having a simple “undo” is all it takes to earn your salary. OK/cancel does not do what you think it does.
