Tailored illustrations

Using illustrations is nothing new, but over the last years it seems illustrations were replaced by background videos and huge, beautiful photos.

In 2017, we saw major brands committing to a unique language based on illustration.
So they’re back, big time!

Mondrianism

Recently we’ve noticed designs inspired by modern and classic artists.
“Mondrianism” is a UI pattern drawing inspiration from the works of the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, in its compositions.

This trend is relatively limited to shots on Dribbble right now. It’ll be interesting watch weather it would break free into the “real world”.

Brutalism

Brutalism is rugged architectural style from the 1950s that lacks concern to look comfortable or easy, often portrays exposed concrete and the use of basic shapes.

Its UI interpretation is going back to the basics- websites that remind us the interent’s early days; sloppy layout, system fonts and icons, extreme gradients, large letters and weird photos scattered all over. No real style, but a lot of humor.

3D

Traditionally, 3D was used in videos, but with recent technology we can see many sites using interactive 3D elements or even entire websites built in 3D, sometimes even resembling games.

It’s always nice to stumble upon one of those.

Wavy

This trend was often used on landing pages’ headers.

It was going strong in early 2017, but it seem to be on its way out…
