Nick Robinson is not a sexual predator
Nick Robinson got into some pretty deep shit lately when a lot of females in the gaming industry on twitter accused him of being predatory in twitter DMs and potentially using his high status to take advantage of others sexually. These claims eventually led to an investigation by Polygon, which culminated in Polygon letting him go, without providing many details as to exactly why.
Since this has happened, he has come out and apologized, with an apology that seems to at least show he sees some wrong in what he did, however it left a lot of people feeling that he missed the point.
a few weeks after making his apology Nick Robinson returned to using twitter regularly, and has not mentioned the issue that caused his departure from Polygon. Some Twitter users are very unhappy that this is the case, and have started replying to every tweet that Nick Robinson makes, as well of most of the replies to his tweets saying something along the lines of “Hey, don’t forget Nick Robinson is a sexual predator” over and over and over again.
Nick Robinson is not a proven sexual predator. He is not even a proven sexual predator in the most lenient definition of a sexual predator, and he is most certainly nowhere near being a sexual predator in legal definition.
Here are the solid facts about the Nick Robinson Case:
- Many twitter users in the gaming industry got angry at Nick Robinson at once, suggesting he did something to make them uncomfortable
- There is a single conversation that Nick Robinson had with a female in the gaming industry screencapped which was posted on twitter. His actions were not predatory under any definition in this screencap, however it does prove that he’s willing to try to contact girls via twitter DMs
- Nick Robinson posted an apology on twitter which admitted he flirted with women over twitter DMs
- Polygon let Nick Robinson go, but didn’t provide any real details as to what the allegations made against him were, or what the precise reason for his departure was.
Those are all the facts that we have. If it’s somehow not clear to you what that means, it means that there is no proof that Nick Robinson is a sexual predator.
Is it okay to believe Nick Robinson did something wrong?
Yes.
Is it okay to no longer support Nick Robinson because you disagree with what he’s done?
Yes.
Is it okay to let Nick Robinson know you no longer support him because of his actions and because you don’t feel he has dealt with this situation in a proper manner?
Absolutely, yes.
Is it okay to tell every single person who interacts with Nick Robinson that Nick Robinson is a sexual predator despite you having no solid evidence that this is the case?
No. it isn’t.
If you believe Nick has been insufficient with his apologies and explanation, I totally support you commenting on everything Nick posts saying something like the following:
Hi Nick, I don’t think you should post things unrelated to the twitter DM issue until you more sufficiently address what happened in a manner that lets people know that you fully understand and regret what you’ve done
You can even reply to comments replying to Nick saying
If you are unsatisfied with Nick’s apology like I am, I would like it if you did not reply to his content in a normal manner until he has addressed the twitter DM issue in a more satisfactory way
That is not the same thing as replying to everything Nick does with “Hey, you’re a sexual predator”.
The social justice community is supposed to be about justice, and I do not find any justice in exaggerating the claims made towards an individual, harassing them simply because you choose to believe they did something unforgivable despite the fact that there is no evidence proving this is the case. I find Nick Robinson’s recent actions gross, and I find his apology insufficient, however the response of some members of the social justice community is hate mongering, and it’s disgusting. It isn’t okay to tell the public that someone did something if you don’t actually know whether or not they did it, under any circumstances.
Please stop. Your actions are painting the entire social justice community in a negative light, and worse, they likely won’t lead to Nick having a better understanding of the situation. They will only lead to more resentment.
