5 Low-Spec Steam Games That Even Your Toaster Can Run

Have you ever felt that your machine couldn’t run any modern games?
That your FPS is still low even though you set all the graphic settings to the lowest and done tweaks that should increase FPS?
Well, you don’t have to do any of that anymore.
I’ve made this list for people out there who are struggling to play modern games with decent FPS and want spectacular games that don’t need any major graphics tweaking for it to run on your low-spec machine.
1. Terraria
Dig, Fight, Explore & Build.
With over 12 million copies sold, Terraria is a no-brainer for people who are looking for a breathtaking game filled with content that runs on any low-spec machine.
Terraria places you in a randomly generated world with a goal of surviving the deadly environment within it.
This game will test your skills, as you progress through the world, you’ll meet frightening bosses that you will have to defeat to get a variety of loot to progress further into the game.
If you’re not the exploring type, don’t worry.
Terraria provides a jaw-dropping choice of blocks to choose from, which will definitely be a spectacular addition to you fellow readers who enjoy making stuff like pixel art.
Terraria is a remarkable game with 50+ hours of pure content, and with mods, you can easily sink in hundreds of hours playing.

2. Stardew Valley
Anybody here remembers Harvest Moon?
If you loved Harvest Moon, you’ll love Stardew Valley.
Stardew Valley is a game to play when you’re stressed, listening to some chill music as you’re building your virtual farm, piece by piece.
Tired of working for a stuck up company in the city, you set out to begin your new life in an old plot your grandfather gave you, with a goal to build a thriving home while making friends along the way.
It’s a game where time flies by so quick that you didn’t realize that you played five hours because you’re finding that right spot to place your soil so you don’t have to remake your entire grand scheme of building the perfect farm layout.
You can grow a variety of crops, and with four seasons in the game, plants can make more money if you plant them in their correct season, so if you want to make profit effectively, you’ll have to plan your crops wisely.
Did I also mention you can make a barn, have farm animals and get pets?
If you want adventure, there’s plenty of it.
Travel far into the forest, to discover unknown secrets that are waiting to be revealed.
Go into the mines to find a variety of ores to smelt or sell, beware though, tough monsters are lurking in the deep depths of the mines.
The combat is simple, with controls that won’t strain your brain as you explore deep into the mines.
This game runs on any low-spec machine with ease, frame drops are almost non-existent.
Stardew Valley is perfect for you readers that want to relax and take stress off.

3. Killing Floor
BOOM, HEADSHOT!
That’s what you’ll say after you blow off a specimen’s head with a double barrel shotgun.
Killing Floor is simple, survive a number of waves with friends or go solo, after you clear each wave, you can go to a Trader to buy various weapons for a limited time.
After all the waves are cleared, you will now face the last challenge, The Patriarch, a maniac wielding a rocket launcher and machine guns.
There are 10 total specimens in Killing Floor, each with different physical appearances and abilities.
For example, Stalkers can go invincible, while Gorefasts get a sudden boost in speed and killing power if you let them get too close.
This game is brutally difficult, even on Normal.
There are 5 different difficulties, Easy, Normal, Hard, Suicidal and Hell on Earth being the hardest.
Swallow your pride and go Easy first, learn how the game mechanics work, when your baby pants are off, you can go into higher difficulties.
I repeat, do not go into Hell on Earth/Suicidal when you first start.
You’ll regret it.
Killing Floor provides a variety of characters to choose, from a guy obsessed with money to a Chicken Terminator (Chickenator).
There are seven different perks in the game, each having a unique ability and discounts when buying weapons they specialize.
Become a Support Specialist, the second line of support next to Field Medic, you can weld doors faster so specimens can’t reach your team easily and you specialize in shotguns.
Or be a berserker, and wield devastating melee weapons to decapitate specimens that are in your way.
Weapons, let’s talk about them, there are dozens of weapons in the game, from Pipe Bombs to a Rocket Launcher, you name it.
Each perk specializes in different weapons, buy weapons that benefit from your perk, don’t buy a rocket launcher for a berserker, it won’t work.
Although lots of characters and weapons are DLC, you can play the game just fine without them.
Most DLCs are cosmetics, except for the Community Weapon Packs, which are really useful for specific perks.
That’s why I recommend you to get the Killing Floor Bundle which includes the game and all DLCs to get the most gore, explosions, and fun.
If you’re low on money, you can wait until the 2017 Steam Summer Sale which is just around the corner.
Now I’ll admit, Killing Floor holds a special place in my heart since it’s one of my first multiplayer games and one of the most fun zombie shooters in my opinion.
Emotions aside, this is a fun, brutal game with requirements perfect for gamers with their low-spec machine.

4. Fallout: New Vegas
Welcome to Vegas. New Vegas.
Explore the vast areas of the Mojave Wasteland as you travel to find the man who shot you and left you for dead in a shallow grave.
One of my favorite games ever, no doubt.
New Vegas is charming with its beautiful landscape and vast areas to explore.
Filled with factions, unique NPCs, quests, and unmarked locations for you to discover.
It’ll take a long time to discover all the secrets and finish all the quests, take a sip of radioactive water and enjoy the ride.
New Vegas has a variety of weapons and armor to choose, from a Sledgehammer to a Laser Machine Gun, from a Sexy Sleepwear to a T-45d Power Armor.
Also, your actions actually matter in New Vegas, you can’t do horrible things to people and get away with it.
For example, if you get hated by Caesar’s Legion, one of the main factions of the game, they will send devastating hit squads to take your head and put it on a stick in their camp, so don’t go making decisions like you’re invulnerable.
DLCs are well worth the price, I recommend you buy all of them.
Even if you don’t have any DLCs you can still rack up 40+ hours if you’re not speedrunning everything, and with DLCs, you can rack up even more.
That’s why I’m recommending you to buy the Ultimate Edition instead of the base game, trust me, it’s worth it.
And with mods, it’s a game with hundreds of hours of playtime.
Install mods, seriously, it can make your game 10x better in looks, feel, and overall gameplay, but if you never played New Vegas before, I suggest installing a few tweak mods like NVSR, 4GB Patcher, and YUP to still get the Vanilla experience, but 10x better.
Certain mods make the game run better on your low-spec machine, it’s optional, not required, but it will help if your framerate’s below average.

5. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
250+ hours.
And I still haven’t beaten this game yet, and with the Afterbirth+ DLC, you can safely say I’ll need 500+ hours to beat this game.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is addicting, dangerously addicting.
With graphics that don’t need high requirements, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a perfect choice for your low-spec machine.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a game about escaping your insane mother’s grasp, by going down to a secret basement and then killing poop monsters by shooting tears of sadness.
“It’s all going well,” you said to yourself.
Until you see a large door with death written all over it at the end of the map, and then you meet a randomly generated boss, and you die.
Permanent death.
No saves, no restart from the last checkpoint.
Unless you got an item that brings you back to life, you’re dead, eviscerated.
And then you go back to the basement to kill more poop monsters and discover new items, and die again.
Every playthrough brings something new, it keeps making you want more.
You progress by going down trap doors to a floor below, and it keeps going down until you meet one of the end-game bosses, defeat the boss and receive one of the 16 endings (not counting Afterbirth+), new items and bragging rights.
This game has found the balance between challenging you to your limits and gigantic replay value that keeps you coming back for more.
With hundreds of items to discover and more to unlock by challenges, it’ll take a long time for you to get it all, and that’s what makes it so exciting, discovering new items, crazy combinations, and frightening bosses.
It also features poop physics!
And death, lots of death.
