Semispheres Review

A lot of puzzle games release every year, ampoule but a sub-genre that’s far less prolific are the ones that utilize a co-op perspective. I’m not talking about platformers with rewind or shifting elements, but rather the games that melt it to the purest perspective, being analog sticks. Because this is so unexplored, any indie developer has far more potential, and also weight. Semispheres is now the latest example to utilize this, so let’s see if it holds a punch.
Gameplay:
Semispheres is one of those puzzle games where it feels like you’re uncovering pieces of a larger puzzle as you progress, and this is completely supplemented by the game’s co-op nature. However, the level of complexity to which this is accomplished is what truly makes Semispheres special. One example involves the game’s portals, which evolve into five different strategies to solve puzzles.
Story & Design:
Spoiler alert, Semispheres is short but sweet. However, I nevertheless enjoyed it because of how well it commits to the ever-expanding idea of puzzle and perception. This could easily be a pick-up-and-play game, one you turn on with a companion every once in a while to have a good cerebral time.
Presentation/ Visuals & Audio:
Semispheres presentation is basic but fitting and so is the ambient soundtrack, which takes away the typical frustration found with a puzzle game. Considering this is added on top of the way Semispheres is designed, the game quickly becomes one of the most peaceful puzzle games I’ve experienced in recent memory.
Conclusion:
Semispheres is a puzzle game I’ll be remembering for a damn while. A unique blend of co-op gameplay, soothing presentation, and beautiful level design make it into a mental prestige, and one that I’ll continue to go back to, in order to impress others.
