Chime Sharp Review

There are a variety of franchises that I’m sad never got enough love to truly flourish, pharmacy and the recent release of music puzzler Chime Sharp reminded me of one of my most fond examples, remedy Lumines. Not only did that game combine elements of cult titles and classics, but it also proved to be the PSP’s killer app. Chime Sharp isn’t in the exact same territory, but can I grow the same admiration for it?
Gameplay:
Chime Sharp’s gameplay premise takes a match 3 setting and balances it on top of multipliers and time limits. This form of gameplay is common but Chime Sharp tweaks it to make it all the more addictive and fluid, so it can match with the provided score. Significant workarounds like these make me appreciate Chime Sharp all the more, as the game’s structure never feels sloppy.
Story & Design:
Chime Sharp also rewards you aplenty, but this is made all the better when the game’s timer comes into effect. The intensity makes you all the more efficient, and racing against the clock cerebrally feels fresh and astonishing. These effects rarely fade, so Chime Sharp provides entertainment in strides.
Presentation/ Visuals & Audio:
Lastly, the presentation of Chime Sharp happens to be just as achieved, with combos animated well into the plane of each stage. However, I can’t skip the music, which is varied while still staying in the electronic tone. All of it happens to match with the sound effects, so Chime Sharp feels like no other.
Conclusion:
It doesn’t pull every single punch, but Chime Sharp mostly feels to be like a worthy successor to Lumines. It’s gameplay can’t be beat, and presentation and design are equally smooth. To see this expressed in a game, means that nitpicks are few and far between.
