Monthly Web Development Update 8/2019: Strong Teams And Ethical Data Sensemaking

Monthly Web Development Update 8/2019: Strong Teams And Ethical Data Sensemaking Monthly Web Development Update 8/2019: Strong Teams And Ethical Data Sensemaking Anselm Hannemann 2019-08-16T13:51:00+02:002019-08-17T11:07:17+00:00 What’s more powerful than a star who knows everything? Well, a team not made of stars but of people who love what they do, stand behind their company’s vision and can work together, support each other. Like a galaxy made of stars — where not every star shines and also doesn’t need to. Everyone has their place, their own strength, their own weakness. Teams don’t consist only of stars, they consist of people, and the most important thing is that the work and life culture is great. So don’t do a moonshot if you’re hiring someone but try to look for someone who fits into your team and encourages, supports your team’s values and members. In terms of your own life, take some time today Read the full article…

Teardown videos prove Nintendo’s revised Switch with new CPU lasts longer on a charge

Photo by Sam Byford / The Verge Nintendo claims that the only difference between its new, revised Switch and the older model is improved battery life. Not content to take Nintendo’s word for it, some popular YouTubers put their brand new, currently hard-to-find units to the test, cracking them open to search for any new undisclosed features or hardware tweaks along the way. The consensus? Nintendo isn’t fibbing about that battery life. But unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anything else inside to get too excited about. Depending on the game that’s being played, the new Switch is supposed to last between 4.5 and 9 hours compared to the original’s range of 2.5 to 6.5 hours of battery life. That’s a huge improvement, and one that’s especially impressive… Read the full article…

Fortnite’s next tournament will also be its most controversial, thanks to mech suits

The future of competitive Fortnite kicks off tomorrow with the Champion Series, and it’s proving to be the most controversial e-sports contest developer Epic Games has ever embarked on. The issue is not prize money or who’s allowed to participate. Instead, the furor is over an in-game mech suit, ripped straight from the pages of classic Japanese manga. And it’s poised to boil over when pro players start competing for an eye-popping $10 million in prize money over the next 30 days. Epic launched its most recent Fortnite season — the 10th one, dubbed Season X — a few days after the conclusion of its wildly successful World Cup event in New York City, where a 16-year-old was crowned the solo winner and took home $3 million in prize money…. RAD Review

Know what the first thing I thought of when I saw RAD was? Toe Jam & Earl. The gameplay of this roguelike action-adventure, which is set in a twice-nuked future whose pop-culture sensibilities are permanently fossilized in the 1980s, shares a lot in common with that old Sega Genesis favorite. Combine that vibe with developer Double Fine’s signature playful sense of humor and near-endless variety from randomized mutation power-ups, and you get a surprisingly engaging just-one-more-run kind of game. It’s bad enough when the nuclear apocalypse hits, but society eventually rebuilds and, in time, civilization moves forward. Cue the second nuclear holocaust — and you have to wonder why humanity can’t catch a break. By the time RAD begins, most of the planet is too dangerous to live in. And of course, even in the safe town you do have, the power goes out. So it’s up to the post-apocalyptic Read the full article…

Apex Legends Changes How to Earn Iron Crown Skins After Player Backlash

Respawn Entertainment is changing how legendary skins for the Apex Legends Iron Crown limited time event can be earned, after a massive outcry from players who say the current system is too punishing. Apex Legends began its latest limited-time event, the Iron Crown, earlier this week. Along with the highly anticipated Solo mode, Iron Crown added a bunch of new legendary skins for each of its heroes. Unfortunately, the only way players can earn these skins are from loot boxes players had to purchase for 700 Apex Coins, or about $7 USD. Read the full article…
