Geared Up: Microsoft’s mystery foldable Surface tablet; updated Nintendo Switch Mini; and Apple vs. Spotify intensifies

Image: Let’s Go Digital This week on Geared Up, we talk about the latest rumors saying that Microsoft is working on a new secret new foldable Surface tablet device that will be able to run Android apps and iCloud services, with a stripped-down Windows Core OS. This will likely be more of a mobile device than a laptop, with LTE and 5G options available. This reminds me of the Microsoft Courier project from back in 2009 — take a look at the embedded video below. Nintendo is ready to release two new updates to the Nintendo Switch lineup. First, a new miniature version of the popular Switch console that will likely be the successor to the Nintendo 3DS. Slo-mo shoot ‘em up My Friend Pedro will make you obsess over high scores

It’s a good time to be an indie developer making games for the Nintendo Switch, and the most recent title to prove that point is My Friend Pedro. From developer DeadToast Entertainment, the formal entity by sole designer Victor Agren, and renowned indie publisher Devolver Digital, My Friend Pedro is an evolution of Agren’s Flash experience fans of Adult Swim web games might have played a half decade ago. Now as a full-fledged console title, it’s easily one of the most stylish and aesthetically distinctive games I’ve played in quite a while. Even as a $20 indie game meant to be played over just a few sittings, what makes the game truly shine is both its replay value and how it pushes you to engage with its perfection-demanding higher… Read the full article…

You’ll LOL when you see what this overdramatic ad is for

That’s because we don’t want to ruin the surprise of which brand is behind this overdramatic ad that’s been doing the rounds on social media recently. Once you’ve watched it you’ll be grateful that we didn’t spoil it for you. We’ve watched it in the office without knowing where it goes, and we were all guffawing like idiots by the time it finished. So without further ado, check out this cinematic ad that looks like a remake of Boyhood. We’ve chosen to share it via this tweet from video director Ryan Simmons to stop the video’s title on Vimeo from ruining the surprise. And trust us, you really won’t see the ending coming… Finished it yet? Yep, we were cracking up too. Why on earth Subway decided it was a good idea to Read the full article…

Build prototypes with Adobe XD

In contemporary web and app design there are often times when the interaction doesn’t open a whole new page or screen. The modern approach to creating interactive content requires transitions between design interface elements so that the user is surprised and wowed by the experience of changing content. This all happens on the same screen or page, without a refresh. Designing these kinds of interactions and refining them to work properly can take time, but it’s worth doing before writing your code.  This is what Adobe XD has spent the last few months of development getting right. Create content in one state on one screen, move that content to the new state on the new screen and simply choose the ‘Auto-Animate’ option to transition. All the content that is the same on both screens automatically animates from one position to another. If you don’t want all the content visible on Read the full article…
