Google’s latest AI experiments let you talk to books and test word association skills

Google today announced a pair of new artificial intelligence experiments from its research division that let web users dabble in semantics and natural language processing. For Google, a company that’s primary product is a search engine that traffics mostly in text, these advances in AI are integral to its business and to its goals of making software that can understand and parse elements of human language. The website will now house any interactive AI language tools, and Google is calling the collection Semantic Experiences. A Theranos employee made a crude Space Invaders clone featuring the journalist who led to its downfall

Blood-testing startup Theranos is circling the drain, and more and more details appear to be leaking from inside the company’s final troubled days. One particularly eye-popping anecdote, courtesy of Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou, revealed how one Theranos employee made a Space Invaders clone featuring a photo of Carreyrou himself as the titular alien threat, culled from his Twitter profile. Carreyrou is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist whose series of damning reports about Theranos leadership and its non-functioning technology directly led to the company’s fall from grace. DaVinci Resolve 15 software released as a free beta

Blackmagic Design has launched DaVinci Resolve 15, the latest incarnation of its industry-standard grading and editing software. Aimed at editors, colorists, VFX artists and sound designers, the update has been released as a free public beta. The biggest news is the inclusion of motion graphics and compositing software Fusion. Fusion is a node-based software with tools for working with footage, generating particles and effects, and a suite of painting tools, as well as a set of keyframe tools alongside a curve editor.  6 best laptops for video editing 2018 The move to bring it into Resolve is a huge deal, enabling artists to stay in a simple interface with the same UI styling, without having to roundtrip to add titles and effects.  For compositors and mograph artists, there is now the ability to edit and grade footage using the software, as well as audio tools to take advantage of. SEGA Genesis, Master System Games Coming to Switch

Classic SEGA games from the Genesis and Master System are making their way to Nintendo Switch. During its annual SEGA FES event in Japan, the company announced a new initiative to bring classic games—including Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, and Thunder Force 2—to Nintendo’s console under the Sega Ages label. As reported by Polygon, over 15 games from SEGA’s library of classics will be released on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan.
