Pokémon Go is getting dynamic real-world weather and 50 new pokémon

The winds are changing in Pokémon Go. Today, developer Niantic revealed a series of updates that will not only introduce more creatures to collect, but also add a new dynamic weather system. The addition of real-time weather will change the way the augmented reality of the game looks, adding rain or snow when appropriate, as well as alter the gameplay by strengthening certain pokémon based on the real-world weather conditions. “Players should expect to see a much better match between what’s in the game and what’s in the world around them,” says Matt Slemon, a lead developer on the game. The updates will come in two parts. First, starting later this week, more that 50 new pokémon will be added to the game, each pulled from the Hoenn… Read the full article…

Add vibrancy to your oil paintings with these top tips

Painting in oils means I can capture bright colours by gradually building the painting up in multiple layers. This technique is perfect for painting sunny roses. I was inspired to create this image after seeing a gorgeous wren sitting in my garden, its song lighting up the early morning. My roses weren’t in bloom yet, but this magic moment inspired me to design a painting depicting them. Improve your brushstrokes in oils I always start the painting process by sketching ideas. I place various elements together to create my personal unique designs. I doodle compositions and choice of colour.  When I’ve found a basic composition that I like, it is only then that I start looking for reference materials. Not the other way around. This way the designs stem from the heart, from a memory or inspired idea. I chose this wren from my own photo database I’ve created over Read the full article…

The Crucial Role of UX in the Design of Software Robots

By Baruch Sachs At networking and business events, I often get asked about where I think user experience is going. A common theme that has emerged during these conversations is the sense that some of the latest trends in software—such as robotic process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence—may do away with the need for UX design. While I understand the overarching fear of this perceived threat to UX designers’ livelihood, I find this very human fear ironic given what the worry is about. People often fear what they don’t quite understand and, certainly, the general hoopla about robots taking over human’s jobs breeds much fear and misunderstanding. However, our guiding principle should always be: When we, as humans, use a product, we should not have to adapt to the technology. Instead, technology should adapt to us. A product that does this successfully is well designed. To create such well-crafted experiences, Read the full article…

Preparing Your UX Career for Virtual Reality

By Paul Bryan If you have been to your local mall recently, you have probably noticed that virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) products and services are now hitting the market in much greater numbers than last year. These digital experiences mix with or even completely replace physical reality, letting users get out from behind their devices’ screens. From sports to retail, entertainment, and medicine, there are clear signs that we are approaching a tipping point with immersive technology. These signs are similar to those we experienced before other major platforms—such as the Web and smartphones—exploded on the scene. Businesses are investing strategically in what will be the biggest platform introduction since mobile. For example, Mark Zuckerberg offered a strong business rationale for Facebook’s decision to pay $2 billion for Oculus Rift: “Strategically, we want to start building the next major computing platform that will come after mobile. … Read the full article…

What DesignOps Can Learn from DevOps

By Jeff Sussna As respect for design as a competitive advantage grows, companies are tackling the challenge of integrating design practices into enterprises and digital businesses. DesignOps is an emerging strategy for addressing this challenge. The UX community is now exploring best practices for operationalizing and scaling in-house design. DevOps is an IT methodology for designing and operating complex IT systems and organizations. DevOps addresses the question of how to build and run sociotechnical systems that can scale without becoming brittle. Understanding the DevOps approach can help the UX community think more broadly and systematically about what it means to scale design. DevOps and DesignOps are both responses to the same underlying phenomenon. We are living through a transition from an industrial economy whose focus was physical products to a post-industrial economy that centers on digital services. This post-industrial business economy isn’t just about making digital products instead of physical Read the full article…

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris Review in Progress

So far, Curse of Osiris for Destiny 2 has been one of the most disappointing Destiny expansions to date. Its content includes a brief two- to three-hour campaign with a hollow story, a tiny public space with little to do, and just two new multiplayer maps (three on PlayStation). The only hope is that on Friday it will introduce Raid Lairs, which Bungie promises will feature new encounters, puzzles, loot, and locations to explore. The campaign takes you inside the new Infinite Forest area of Mercury (when you’re not completing a fetch quest on one of the existing destinations) and extends itself by including the two new Strike Missions, called A Garden World and Tree of Probabilities, within the nine total missions. These Strikes are the best portion of the campaign, thanks to jaunts through moments in time that present a glimpse of Mercury when it was a much more Read the full article…

A Different Way How To Become A Winner

goodtoknow.com One boarding house. One board game. One new way how to change the way you act in your life through the joy. “Steven! Are you heading to Norway?” I asked the friend sitting opposite of me. He is my friend, but let´s call him enemy for now.“Yes, I am.” he replied confidently.“So…please don´t go there. If you try to take it, I attack you and you are gonna cry.” I am “sure” everybody loves this honesty. And everybody who played this game with me knows that I can be very dramatic. “We can cooperate and go together for Germany.” I continued. “Yes, that sounds good.” he said. “But I go for Norway anyways!” sounded the last announcement accompanied by his cheeky smile. 4 hours later “I quit!” said Steven angrily, steeply stood up and starred at the boarding game in front of us.Everybody was silent. Small colorful figures on the tableau, representing Read the full article…
